Too often we hear about the ‘skills’ shortage and the need to spend money on bringing in talent or hiring contract workers. Here’s a novel idea, why not offer to re-train experience IT staff, more mature staff. Or even resurrect apprenticeships for school leavers. And why on earth insist on a degree, some of the most excellent and intelligent colleagues I’ve ever had did not possess degrees. Do not discriminate on anything and always consider investment, some may move on but if you acknowledge an individuals value to your organisation appropriatley then they shouldn’t.
